The Bastion Mews
Local electronic ensemble The Bastion Mews has been quietly operating on the outskirts of the Vancouver improv scene since 2005. The rigorous aesthetics of the band members solo projects (Kellarissa and connect_icut) gives way here to a communal sense of play. And while the fact that The Bastion Mews' has released only two EPs over a span of 15 years may seem like evidence of a defective work ethic, it's exactly in line with the group's methodology of waiting, listening, and only acting when the time is right. As music continues its deep slide into cultural devaluation and disembodiment, it's worth remembering that listening is valuable work.
